Finding beauty and wonder by following my nose::
I fell in love with making images as a young teenager. I devoted every penny I made at all my summer jobs for a camera and some film. I got a Nikon FM with a 50 mm 1.8 lens. A love of of my life.Â
That urge to point to something and say, "look at that!" was so exciting at first. It's a connection and a building of understanding with others. I've found what my particular nature desires is connection, yet I'm also shy so photography and art is also a way to express what wants to come out and open up to what I may be afraid of.
I was lucky as a photographer and had a chance to work for the local newspaper for many years. It was such a great way to experiment and really get to know how to really see clearly.Â
After high school in Berlin, NH, I made my way to Maine College of Art in Portland where I found a creative community, I found a family. I discovered photography as a powerful way to express complexity in one moment of recognition.Â
Art is powerful. Sometimes.
There's a moment when it's all one and that shutter button can see it.
I quit the newspaper and now I operate a short term rental and as of 2024 getting back to my camera and the challenge of making art.
For art's sake.
I show at Main Street Art Gallery in North Conway and here online.
